You know that thing, when you are sitting in your living room and you realize that you're surrounded by furniture that you would no longer buy? Like, now you prefer mid-century lines to Mission oak, even though you still love the Mission oak, in theory, but in actuality you really want an Eames lounger? Well, a few days ago I opened up my website and decided that it needed to be rebranded as much as that theoretical living room. I'm an editor by training and so as I played around with the new design I kept editing, and editing and editing until all that remained was a nice clean white background, some large images and a simple menu. I also realized that we all use websites differently than we did 10 years ago when my site was designed. At the time, it was the fashion to kind of cram in a lot of information and let people know where to find you on every other platform like the Twitter, YouTube and the Facebooks. Today, people are pretty savvy when it comes to finding you online - just find a @handle and stick with it across the board. People will follow you on whichever platform they like to receive their content. Not as much spoon-feeding is required. People will find you if they want. I also haven't been blogging as much and I think that goes for a lot of people. Long-form blogging was so popular back in the LiveJournal days, then people got fancy with their own blogs. Facebook came around and people shortened their narratives and added photos. With Twitter, we could blurt out anything, anytime with only 140 characters. With Instagram, we only share a photo and a caption. We're editing our sharing down to the smallest kernel. And don't get me started on Snapchat. I'm an Old. I don't get it and I'm okay with that. Anyway, my website looks different now.  I've narrowed the content down to the most basic: art, contact, prices. I feel like I've given myself a little breathing room. RR LOGO 2
