Mad Woman

Channeling Joan Holloway

When it comes to inspiration, I have a list of go-to's. Scouring a junk store. Leafing through an Anthropologie catalog. Visiting all those downtown shops I never have time for. Wine. But sometimes I find inspiration in unexpected places. Like Mad Men. If you haven't yet watched Mad Men, I strongly encourage you to stop reading this right now and proceed directly to your Netflix queue. If you do watch but haven't yet seen the Season 4 finale, I'll try not to give too much away. Last night's episode was not only great television, it was an invigorating look at what it might be like to do what you really, really love to do and on your own terms. I've often wondered what it would be like to just take the plunge. Leave the security and (often mind-numbing) familiarity of my day job and do this artist thing full time. Timing has never been on my side in this regard and sadly, it still isn't. But after falling under the spell of last night's Mad Men, (spoiler: Sterling Cooper Draper and Pryce!) I am once again daydreaming of  studio spaces, storefronts and co-ops. Curse you, Don Draper.
