Day In The City, Part 1: The Museum
My kids are just now at the age that they don't behave like feral monkeys in public. At least not all the time. So when I was on vacation from my Real Job last week, I surprised them with a day trip to Portland. We started out at the Portland Art Museum which is the oldest museum in the Pacific Northwest and seventh-oldest in the country. It's located in downtown Portland at the east end of the park blocks, very near my old stompin' grounds at Portland State University where I spent a brief and misdirected two years. I digress. Though my original goal was just to let the kids wander through the regular museum collections, maybe with a sketchpad, I was thrilled to find out that he PAM was having an exhibit called The Allure of the Automobile. Even better, this was the first time in the museum's history that photography of any kind was allowed in a special exhibit. These cars were so old, so unique and so cool that the lending agreements stipulated exactly how many hours each could be exhibited with the hoods up.
