Dervish

Oh my gosh, I am so excited about some upcoming paintings. Some are commissioned paintings and some are ones that I'm just doing for myself...just painting them because they are swirling around in my head and I need to get them OUT and on to the paper so I can move on. They're like a creative bottleneck. Lately, I think I am finding a nice balance between my paid-for work and my just-for-fun work. The paid-for work keeps me motivated and engaged with all the really amazing people I'm meeting as clients. The just-for-fun work feeds my soul. One of the upcoming just-for-fun paintings is a companion piece to the Dia de los Muertos portrait I did of my daughter a couple weeks ago. Because when you have two kids, you can't just paint one of them up like a Day of the Dead skeleton and NOT do the same for the other kid. You just can't. So last weekend I painted up my son, gave him some props and took some reference photos in the backyard.
