Day of The Bloggess
I am kind of in a Dia de los Muertos phase right now. Or is it still? I don’t know. I just love the imagery – it’s both dark and beautiful.
I’ve discoverd that many people are freaked out by the skulls and face-painting traditions. But you know, my dad went to Catholic school and they used to dress up as martyred saints on Nov. 1, so I guess it’s all relative.
Anyway, I happen to like skulls.
I’ll be launching Kickstarter project soon, that, if all goes well, will be funded just in time for Dias de los Muertos, Nov. 1-2. I was painting some random portraits to get in the mood and the first person that came to mind was Jenny, The Bloggess. She’s the kind of gal you can say, “Hey, I’m painting you with a skull face.” And she’s like, “Alright then.”

"Rachael’s paintings are worth being injected by venom, nearly - but not quite - to the point of death." -Jenny, The Bloggess
UPDATED: Here’s a link to my Kickstarter project where you can get your own Day of the Dead portrait AND a Jenny The Bloggess cut-out mask.
SO freakin’ cool! *runs off to figure out how to start a gift giving tradition at Halloween*
This is AMAZING!!! LOVE IT!! My best friend is getting married on Nov. 2nd and it is a Day of the Dead theme. Black and red and LOTS of skulls!!!
I so adore you.
I must say, you create the most beautiful paintings! I’ve always loved texture and colour, and am so jealous of your talent!! I can’t wait to see more 🙂

I have to share this with my friend Evie, since she is just a FIEND for Dia de los Muertes things. Love it!
I’ve been trying to get to the Kickstarter page since I saw the Bloggess’s portrait, but the link doesn’t work.
Links fixed! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rachaelrossman/dia-de-los-muertos-day-of-the-dead-portrait-series
I love painting on YUPO! It is the coolest watercolor surface. Those colors just sing! Beautiful portrait you’ve done!
